I am a Car Nut - KL's hidden treasures

If someone asks me, “What can you find in KL?”, surely I will pull out the usual string of answers that basically describes KL; the sky-scraping Twin Towers (or Menara Jagung as some like to call them), Menara KL, the tourist-packed Bukit Bintang, Plaza Lowyat a.k.a. IT heaven, Mid Valley, Times Square, and some other malls or attractions that might appeal the usual kaki jalan.

But with being a car nut, things become a little different. Since this is the country’s capital, most of the richies and VIPs live/wander around here. And having a lot of money (I mean a LOT) pretty much doesn’t fit if you’re not riding in style, and that’s why you’ll see them cruising the streets of KL in super-cool, uber-styled supercars. And when a car nut (especially a young one like me) caught even a glimpse of that million-Ringgit ride, we become a bit excited, and totally distracted.

No, not his one, silly. Just couldn't stop another habit of mine; panning shots.

These barely-legal road monsters don’t seem fit on roaming the public roads, having to restrain the massive power that inhabits the engine. Imagine having hundreds of horsepower at the disposal of your right foot, ready to unleash a serious amount of torque and noise, which could be turned into a sudden surge of astounding acceleration and speed. But of course, when these machines could do 0-100km/h in less than 4 seconds, doesn’t mean that it has to do that all the time. They could also serve as a symbol of success, status or wealth of an individual.

Like this 911 for example, could also serve as a good daily car to ferry the owner anywhere in the city. Good ground clearance, not too wide and the ride is not bone-shattering. But a closer look reveals that this is no normal 911. This one is in fact is the turbo version, housing a straight six at the rear that churns out 473bhp. Dare to mess with this one on the freeways?

Call it squashed beetle? Wait until you meet 'em at the tracks and see who's squashed.

The magical word. Even the words itself contributes to 100hp already.

Stochastic Shots - Italiannies!

No, its not the one that you go and have a mouth-watering pasta or pizza to satisfy your taste buds. But it does have a splash of tomato-redness all over though.

The 458 Italia is the successor of the F430, and boy, do the guys in Ferrari really did a good job. The design is totally something new! Small fins in the front, triple-exhaust system, who would've thought of that?

Beside the 458, the GT-R looked...a little "normal".

That's for an extra...I don't know...RM10,000?

Where the heart and soul lies.

Those diffusers look like they belong on a missile. Or a jet plane.

Cool cars have rounded rear lights.

With its emergence in Malaysia, it is quickly replacing the spot where the F430 previously filled up. Although more and more is flooding the streets these days, the number of the predecessor is still dominating. Maybe a couple of years more?

Supercars @ Tropicana

Hearing the rumors of the supercar gathering at Tropicana, I immediately charged my cam's battery to full, and also for myself. And not to forget, I don't even know how to get there! But it seems like my swift internet search and the will to gamble to the chances of relying to the internet's info somehow got my feet landed to the mall.

So, upon reaching, I dashed off across the mall, frantically searching this so-called "supercar gathering". Already, my head is starting to picture SLSes and R8s lined up along with a dozen of Ferraris and countless Porsches. And then... Aha! The Poster!

5pm? Yeah, right.

But although it says at 5pm, after asking the valet guy, it is actually on at 8pm. Duh. Well, it's better to arrive early, aite? But there is one guy that arrived early for the event. Even by hearing the rumbling sound of its straight-six engine, it managed to froze me and gape in astonishment. The first one to arrive was the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

A 996, yum yum.

And before any of you guys start saying "Nah, that's a normal Porsche with some stickers and a set of blue rims" or "Are you sure? The front bumper looks different", I do not have a great depth of knowledge in Porsche's cars, so I couldn't really distinguish between a real GT3, and a kitted one. But one thing that I realize though, this one had that mean roll cage fitted inside, so I think, and I quote, I think, it is the real deal.

Being bored, I strolled around the mall, waiting for 8pm to come. And when it was, I wasted no time. Went straight to the ground floor and to the event location. Fortunately, I managed to get there before most of the cars get there. Listening to the intoxicating sound of various exotic engines really makes my day.

Anyways, I'll stop blabber here and let the pictures do the talking.

Eying the California from across the street...

...while the 430 does the same towards the LP640.

Aaaargh! My eyes!!

Hey.. Even the Brits decided to join the party...

Butt shot!

430s flanked by a GTR and a Carrera4S.

A row of millions of mad Italian/German horsepowers!

We could see how differently the Europeans make their cars. Germany with the sexy curves...

...while Japan with the all-business no-compromise lines and edges.

Another unique car in display, a matte-black R35 Skyline GTR. There's a Nismo badge at the rear by the way. Legit? Not so sure though.

Anyways, made a few new pals from the event. Had a good time chatting with you guys about everything related to cars! Be looking forward to seeing you guys anytime soon!
