A quick peek on R-Engineering’s Honda Civic Type R TCR race car!

The recent JB Underground Meet & Greet, in short, was one of the best auto events/gatherings we have ever attended locally. The number of cars that attended was not only colossal, the quality that comes with it also deserves a two thumbs up. It was hard to focus on any specific subject as all of them were drool-worthy and deserves more than just a snapshot.

We’d have a full write-up coming up soon, but for now we would like to present one of the cars that really caught our attention during the event. True, this might not be a street car. Heck, it is even far from being road legal. But the presence of this Honda Civic Type R TCR race car was hard to resist and it was one of those that the visitors was unable to take their eyes off from.

Owned by Johor-based racing outfit R-Engineering, the new Type R TCR is just another addition to their already vast racing fleet. R-Engineering is no stranger to the local racing scene as they not only participated in many local races like the Malaysian Championship Series (formerly known as the Malaysian Super Series) and the Sepang 1000KM Endurance Race, grabbing race wins and podium spots are a norm for them as well.

We’re not sure if the Type R TCR gets a green light to race in any of the local races but if it does, R-Engineering will be one of the first teams fielding this competitive racing machine. A quick look on the specs, the Type R TCR is powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that pumps out around 330-horsepower and 400Nm of torque. Mated to a Sadev 6-speed sequential with paddle shifters, stopping power are provided by a set of 6-piston calipers clamping down the 380mm steel ventilated discs upfront, and 2-piston calipers with 261mm steel discs at the rear.

Oh, and the Type R TCR doesn’t just look cool and menacing, it has the performance that matches it as well. A quick search on Youtube reveals how with the right driver behind the wheel, the Type R TCR gives its rivals a hard time on the track with no room for error to spare. Hopefully R-Engineering are able to field this as their entry in the upcoming Sepang 1000KM and properly display the Type R TCR’s prowess!
