“Aight, look man. There’s a lot of ways you can do this, aight? Hand braking is the easiest, so the first thing I want you to do, I want you to rip that e-brake. Aight, after you rip the e-brake, then I want you to power over…”, and that my friends, is not a proper 30-seconds lesson on how to drift. Apparently, this is not a technique that requires proper procedure. If you really followed Twink’s simple and effortless instructions on how to drift, then your car should already be banging into the walls or guardrails, or you’re just pure talented. To experience firsthand on how the pros do their thing on going sideways and doing more than just ripping e-brakes, drop off to the upcoming Formula Drift Asia Championship as it is coming back to Malaysia this year!
Set at the 17th & 18th December, one of the most famous drift championship is now back to satisfy the craving for speed lovers on getting their dosage of sideways action and rubber-burning spectacle on their own shores. 32 drivers will battle it out in determining who’s got what it takes to gain the sideways supremacy amongst the greatest drivers across Asia, and some beyond. Overseas drivers like Daigo Saito from Japan, JB representing the Aussies and Ken Gushi of the Stars and Stripes will battle it out against our own stars like Ivan Lau, TTW, and Ah Fai who needs no introduction in the local drifting scene.

The location of this year’s challenge? Well, at their official website, it only states that it will be held at the “streets of Kuala Lumpur”. A street track perhaps? That sounds pretty damn awesome! Uneven roads, uncertain surfaces, but definitely no traffic of course, this already sounds like a street race already. And if some of you might recall, last year’s Formula Drift was held at Dataran Merdeka at roughly the same date (18th & 19th December 2010). So by using simple logic, could this be an annual event? I really sure hope so. Anyways, do not worry too much about it; I’ll post the location here once it is confirmed by the organizers.

You gotta watch this vid! A great sum-up of how the last Formula Drift was...;)
The 1st round in Singapore was a success, and fans are gearing up for the next round in Indonesia. So, your December calendar is still pretty much unfilled? Not anymore. Book up the mid-December to support the local drift scene and let’s spice up the Round 3 Formula Drift Asia Championship 2011!
