Legends of The Motoring World - Tsuchiya Keiichi

Motorsports had come a very long way, where names like Henry Ford, Ferdinand Porsche and Karl Benz had left quite a foot trail in the automotive world. But there are individuals that continue the tradition of making the 4-wheeled metal box more than what it is. They make them faster, more agile, and pushing them to the limit, where no man has gone. Here, I present to you, the Legends of Motoring World.

To those of you that has no idea who this is, he's the guy which minds are on wheels. The first man that brings cars to us, Mr. Karl Benz.

With top speeds of 16km/h, this is the first known patented car by the brilliant Mr. Benz. (Well, looks more like a tricycle to me)

Well, maybe a lot of us could easily spell them out, having their names being publish daily in the papers, mentioned a zillion times in the news or rumored around as the fastest man alive; who could have possibly miss that? But what about the others? Those that do not get that much coverage from the media? Those that are overshadowed by big, motoring cups that their existence is just something in the history books? Lets give them a little tribute by appreciating their effort in making motorsports a world-class event.

So lets move on to the first one that I have in the list. Drifting has now swept the world with such a ferocity, that it no longer stayed in the twisted and wicked roads of the touge in Japan. Vaughn Gittin Jr., Tanner Foust and Dai Yoshihara are now international stars when it comes to going sideways. But who is the man that made such driving style into an international phenomenon? There is only one guy responsible for such crime, the one dubbed as the real world Drift King or "Dorikin", Mr. Tsuchiya Keiichi .

"Dorikin" with one of his favorite cars, the Honda NSX.

Born back in 1st January 1956 at Tomi, Nagano, Japan, Mr. Tsuchiya paved his way into the professional motorsports scene from the most unlikely way, street racing. And he does not only made a name for himself, he literally became a legend with his unique style of drifting and his nerve-racking, high-speeds touge driving. After starting off from the Fuji Freshman series in 1977, Tsuchiya's professional career grew after the years with rapid acceleration.

I doubt that he ever drifted in one of these...

Mr. Tsuchiya in his "Hachiroku" during the 1984 Fuji Freshman Cup. Going sideways!!

His career then bloomed when he entered a series of world-class events such as the Japan Touring Car Championship, NASCAR, and also the prestigious race that only the strongest will remain, the punishing 24- hour Le Mans. Who knows if there is more that fits in this list. But whatever it is, he was one of the most stunning and awesome driver ever in the scene.

Finishing the Le Mans is one thing, but getting a podium finish? Truly a man for the job.

Tsuchiya had commandeered one of these NSX GTs in the JGTC.

"Was", as being that he is now retired, from racing of course. And he is now filling his past time with what most of us had always dreamt of doing while retiring. Test driving new, powerful cars like the R35 Skyline or the Murcielago on world-renowned tracks in Japan, being a judge in the D1GP, or even hosting a video line of your own. Seriously, even after retiring, this guy is living his life! If you are familiar with Japan's auto scene, shows like Option or Best Motoring should not be something new to you.

Porsches, NSXs, GT-Rs, what else would you wish for during retirement?

At such an old age, you're still flirty, aren't 'cha?

The "Dorikin" as an official judge for the D1GP.

But in case that you are, here's a lil info about it. Those shows are basically like Top Gear, except that they don't look at underpowered, weird looking cars that needed sarcastically-fueled commentaries, or even do weird challenges that needed the cars to be turned into Frankenstein. Tsuchiya and friends usually get a new car, tests them on the track ( for evaluation, commentaries, etc... ) and last but not least, put them with cars that belong in the same category and race them down. Or if its not on the track, they'll do it on the narrow, winding roads of the touge, where only those with balls will ever reach the finishing line. Getting the picture?

The usual view of Tsuchiya's videos, showing the rev meter and his footwork altogether.

Unlike these three, where their challenges range from drag racing a Bugatti with an Eurofighter, to converting your car into an amphibious vehicle. Sounds crazy? But I love them nonetheless!

Mr. Tsuchiya is also known for his never-ending love towards the RWD "hachiroku", as they call the Toyota Corolla AE-86 Trueno in Japan. It is with this midget car that Dorikin was able to win 6 consecutive wins in the 1984 Fuji Freshman Cup series, making it a serious track-killing machine that before him, was neglected and being made fun of. Just imagine, being in the race, he didn't bother to race with those in his class of 1.6 litre. Instead, he hunted those running with the turbocharged 2.0 Skylines that was way out of his league. Even after all those years, he is still sticking with his trusty "hachiroku" to get him around the touge and where "The most important thing is balance", quoted the Dorikin.

Mr. Tsuchiya in his trademark jade green suit with his beloved "Hachiroku", the car that literally captured his heart.

Neither will he settle for the new Toyota MRS nor the Honda S2000. In touge, "Hachiroku" is Tsuchiya Keiichi, and that, is something that is not going to change.

Even after all these years, and all the famous names appearing in the drift scene, no one will be able to replace Mr. Keiichi Tsuchiya's place in making what drifting is today. A special salute to you, and truly you deserve a place in Legends of The Motoring World.

Again. Yes, again.

Missed two super-important events a few days back.. I don't care if you want to call me a crybaby for being such, but the inability of attending them really brings me down! And what makes me even furrrious is not again about the lack of information about the event, but it is because there are other matters that has a higher priority than them!

But what can I say, sometimes there are things that are far much more important that you would HAVE to leave your beloved passion and indulgence towards speed behind. I'll just stop my blabber here and move on to what I missed at 31st October 2010...

1- The largest Ferrari gathering in Malaysia

Prancing Horses everywhere!!

Oh yes, that's an Enzo alright.

2- Zerotohundred's Time To Attack!!!

The Malaysian Stig making his final check before tearing the scorching Sepang track

But even The Stig could not stop Andy Kazama from clocking the best time, shattering the previous record with a 2:28.249

Envy? Absolutely.
Angry? Not exactly.

But, what could I say... Maybe my time just isn't up yet. Maybe these auto organizers had somehow knew my schedule that they intentionally made the events "unattendable" for me, if you know what i'm saying. Never mind. For now, my mind is set at one of the biggest auto show in town. So let's cross our fingers and wish me luck on it!! And hopefully i'll manage to get tonnes of pics from it. Really looking forward to sharing it here... Til then..

Nissan Fairlady 370z

Wannabes are unfortunately everywhere today. Especially for autos. We could see our streets filled with pseudo Evolutions and Skylines done by our local tuners, that I would say that they did a good job of botching down the original model to an unrecognizable form. As zth.com members like to call them "Wiralution" or "Wajalution". But not all wannabes are THAT bad. Really. Those with real skills, talent and an eye for perfection could really turn something good, into better.

I gotta say that this is one of the nicest pimped out car I've seen roaming the streets. And moreover, it's a 370z! Something that is still rare today! But is it?

The front looks legit. With the distinctive 370 headlights...

It is undoubtedly a 370z from this angle... But as we move to the sides...

WTH?? A 350's ass??!

So the mask has been revealed...

So it is a 350z after all... A disappointment? Well, come to think that it is not a real 370z is quite a disappointment, but seeing this 350z morphed into this amazingly crafted "370z" is totally the cure! How I hope that all the local tuners could produce such masterpiece that people will ignore that it is a wannabe after all. And I wonder, whose 370z's headlights did this guy took from?

Lamborghini Murcielago

When we look back at the past, we'll be amazed on how time had changed us. From A to B, good to bad, bad to worst, etc... Now, Lamborghini is a name that needs no introduction, where the marque had left trails all over the world with its monstrous V12. The Raging bull is indeed a marvel of today's automotive engineering. But who in the world would have thought that Mr. Ferruccio Lamborghini first started off as someone who makes...tractors. Yes, you heard me. Tractors. From tractors to supercars. From clients at first are farmers to wealthy, filthily-rich middle-east oil tycoons and others in the same pay grade. Now that's a change that I REALLY wanted to see em happening. Let's take a look on one of Lamborghini's exquisite and impressive engineering under the name of speed, the Murcielago.

Watcha lookin' at, punk?

These trumpets will play a different kind of orchestra, at a different stage

Powered by a 6.2L V12, this supercar tears the tarmac from 0-100kmh in 3.8 seconds. Of course, by having 572hp in your disposal, such speeds are no longer impossible to achieve. And the speeds are not only contributed by the big, hulking engine. The aerodynamics and the materials used to make the body (carbon fiber, and other lightweight materials) helps by not bogging down this bull with unnecessary weight to carry around.

Aggressive lines and air intakes that resembles a jet fighter.

Owning one of these requires you to clean em everyday to avoid bees from nesting up the honeycomb.

And since it is effingly quick, carbon ceramic brakes are installed, to ensure that you will be at the edge of the cliff, and not in it. And besides, that is only the few materials that could stand the punishing speed and acceleration of the raging bull.

Braking hard while doing 300km/h will cause your eyes to pop out from the sockets.

Going to hyperspace in 3....2....1....

Well, of course, to own one of these, you need to be a multi-million dollar businessman with a rock-hard (or adamantium-hard if I may exaggerate) financial stand as you'll need around RM 1.5 mil just to own it. And that does not include the road tax (found out that it could cost around RM 16k per year), fuel (29L per 100km,yikes!), maintenance,blah3... And the list could go on and on and on... Whatever it is, it sure is a marvel that Mr. Lamborghini had changed his tastes from building tractors to supercars, or else we will be missing something that is totally out of this world. And besides, as a personal note, i'm kinda tired associating the horse as an icon of speed. Seeing the bull, is quite something else, isn't it?

Civic Type-R (FD2)

Not that i'm a lazy bum, im just not in the mood to blabber today. So, I think i'll just let down a few pics from my personal collection. A white Civic Type-R (an original one, i think). FD2 is it? I'm not so sure.. These chassis code had always managed to get me confused. I thought only the Mazdas are using FDs.

Is it me, or white is the only color that fits all cars?

Brembo calipers shyly hides behind the official Type-R wheels, riding on Potenza RE070s. Really reminds me of the NSX.

A lil up close and personal with its menacing front looks.

A good car actually, having able to push out 222 horses out of it's 2.0 liter K20A. And its 4 door! Perfect for the average family guy that wants something that could ferry his wife and two kids, and also around the track as well. The rear spoiler and those Brembo brakes are not just for show, they actually work. Those guys at Honda ain't gonna put those for fun, believe me.

Auto Shows

You know, since i am some kind of a petrol head, i've always dreamt of going to an autoshow event, or maybe a race, which is better...but it seems like luck has never sided me on such occasions!! everytime, and i say again, everytime that i got any type of information regarding an autoshow or something related, is AFTER the event had ended! DAMN!!! why, Mr.Anderson..WHY??

Always wanted to get up close and personal with these rare beasts, like this limited 20-unit Lambo Reventon.

Or even this rare R35 which has been converted to rear-wheel drive to enter the D1GP, it's a sight that I never wanna miss!

Frustrated? you bet..but giving up will just mean that im abandoning my newly found passion, which i do not think will be the case for now... So! i've decided to be a lil more active in the net, and the search paid off! i think..well, at the beginning of it, i think it did.. because i found the date and venue for the Goodyear International Drift Series!! Haha!! "a jackpot!!", that what was in my mind at that time..

My first auto event!! Of attending, of course.. Or is it?

Being all pumped up, all the planning had automatically started in my mind, the transport, funds, foods, and so on...

But then again, you know...Malaysian streets are filled with speed bumps... and holes.so yet again, i encountered another one.bummer.

I could say that the hole is THIS deep, where getting outta it is no easy feat. haha.

Firstly, the venue. at first i thought it was at Melaka International Trade Center, which is not a big deal coz it is accessible via public transport. but a second and detailed glance to the venue shows that it isn't! it is not MITC, its MIMC, or Melaka International Motorsport Circuit! Damnit! some might ask, "So, if its at MIMC, what's the big deal?" Exactly. What's the big deal? its inaccessible by public transport, that's why!! because i could be categorized as a frequent and loyal p.t. user, and without it i'll be totally immobilized...

the other reasons are not a big deal really, its more of a personal issue such as funding and the lack of free time at the particular date. so i could say that it was really a setback for me of not being able to go to the event. but, i believe that my time is going to come rolling to me someday, and i could say to you that when the time comes, to hell that i'm gonna let it slip through!!
so while i'm still in this particular topic, i would like to ask you guys a favor, a really simple one actually...

if you encountered or heard of any upcoming auto events in Malaysia, please do let me know...high priority are being put to events that belongs in the international level, as i really love a twist of variety in the event. but that does not mean im hating local events!!no!! by supporting locally organized events, then our local motor industry could rise to the eyes of the world!
I think that's enough of blabbering for now. Again, if there is any such events, please let me know, aite? till then, cheerio!

Blabber...

Honestly, when I started this blog, i had an image of myself being occupied updating it with numerous posts, filled with interesting stuff that i had never imagined.
Blah.
not even close.
i could not even update it weekly, not even monthly! maybe the mood comes when i feel extremely bored and could not find anything interesting in the internet to entertain the enormous spare time that i had in hand (i have none actually!).
so here i am, trying to come up with a new post in this lovely mid-October, where assignments are fading off, and the exam fever brewing up.. an early call to start opening up those books i might say. but yet, i think one post could not hurt, doesn't it?
no where should i go from here? giving a heads up of what i'm planning to do with this rusty ol' blog? hmmm... that might just as well work..i think..so maybe some of you realize that i have posted a few pics of automotives, where even i myself are in the state of unsureness of whether it is attractive, or just a simple jpeg for you guys. but to me, i just got to say that i LOVE 'em!
i never thought that i will ever have the slightest interest in photography! really! while im still in this topic, i would like to thank those that had whether directly or indirectly got me into this newly-discovered hobby that had me indulging in it. a million thanks to you guys, you ROCK!!
so at this newbie-level that im still in for the moment, i can say that most of my pics are not so eye-popping or even appealing for some...since i have a thing with cars, you'd expect more of them to come in the time being. i'll try my best to post them as frequent as i could, if i have any subjects to shoot on to.
since i could be categorized as "freelance"( that's what i think i might be called), i don't really get a call for a photoshoot of any kind. i just shoot anything that i feel.....how do you put this..."shootworthy". heh. i am really starting to make a lot of new terms here. never mind..
well, i could say that what i mentioned earlier will be the ones that's going to fill up this blog! which i really hope that i will get a lot o subjects to shoot, or else it will again start to get rusty, and i don't think that i have enough WD40 to shove them off..
let's just hope that i'll have the strength for the next post tomorrow..haha..
til then, cheerio!

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X (Wallpaper)

Mitsubishi. Subaru's arch rival on both dirt and tarmac. These two car manufacturers have been competing each other on coming out with the perfect AWD platform to dominate the motoring scene. But no matter how far the other party tries to outrun the other, the pursuer will never seem to bug off.
Both Mitsubishi and Subaru had came up with a new platform in 2008, signaling their never-ending rivalry towards perfection and competition. While Subaru made a revolutionary decision by coming out with a hatchback for its new line of production, Mitsubishi had still to retain it's famous four-door sedan layout on their Lancer Evolution X that you can drive furiously on the track, and pick your kids up from school straight after a session of high-octane rubber-burning drive.
Given the restriction of location and time, I had only managed to get a few shots out of this beautiful beast. Its blood-red paint job seemed too captivating compared to its little underpowered brother, the Lancer 2.0.

Would you believe that that eenie miney 2.0 produces almost 300hp??

I just could not help it. The looks of this hunk of metal is just so menacing, and the paint job really had increased it's X factor to stand up among the others. Again, this is a 1280x800 version of wallpaper, so feel free to use it as your wallpaper, not profit-gaining activities..=)

Wallpaper - 1

Here's one of my favorite subject of photography, a Subaru Impreza WRX. Famed for winning numerous rally events, this bright blue AWD has been sweeping the world of rallying, leaving the other manufacturers in the various clouds of dust, snow, sand, dirt and gravel. But its recent withdrawal from the WRC gave way for others to gain the title of the best rally car. Even so, the tracks that the Impreza left behind is still fresh and is on to challenge any that comes in its way.

Somehow i was not so pleased with the surrounding of the car, so i have decided to give it a lil touch from photoshop.

Had always loved a Subaru with the classic rally livery. The blue and yellow seemed so fitting. This is a 1280 x 800 version of my wallpaper. Use it as you please, but please do not redistribute it by saying that its yours...=)

Transformers in Malaysia!!

Now, since when did Bumblebee changed its colors and model into a convertible??Hmm....

But sorry though, couldn't post the pics of em transformin... Sector 7 will definitely kill me...XD

Comeback!!

Well, undeniably that I am one of the guys that kept filling up blogspot with inactive blogs that seemed to be "pestering" in the world wide web. Apologies for my behavior, i'll try to be more "active" on this time on... Although i know that i may not have the capacity or even the ability to continuously be online at several occasions, i'll try my best to do so...

And seems like we are now in a new year than my previous blog post, i now may have some new agendas to be posted on the net. With the arrival of a new digital camera, i can now share with the world what i find interesting and catches my eyes. An early warning to those that may not like cars or toys for boys, this blog will be filled with pics of it. Cars, digital electronic stuffs, you name it. And also since i am a newbie in the photography field, i would really appreciate building comments for my pictures and also those that i have edited with photoshop. Honestly, i really need some guidance and tutors from anyone that thinks that i need more skill or work to get my shots look "professional" or even "acceptable" to the public's eyes.

Again, i'll try to post some of my shots here when i have the opportunity, and thanks a lot for your willingness to even bother to look into my blog... =D
