Supercar Casualties - A bad start for 2012

Looks like the sudden rise of supercars owners in Malaysia does not only come with pride and glory, but also with crashes and tragedy.

In a recent event, an F430 was reported being test driven near KLIA where it lost control and crashed underneath the guardrail, hitting a lamp post. Fortunately for both the driver and passenger, they managed to come out without any major injuries.

The front of the RM 1mil ++ was completely gone, and I don't think that the owner would be very pleased receiving his new car in such a form though.

But that was just an old news. Just when I thought things had settled down, another crash went viral on the airwaves. A black Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 had crashed, again at the highways, and one could definitely call this one totaled.

The force of the crash was so violent that I think it had went though the guardrails and rested on the motorcycle lanes. So far there are no further details on this, but I sure hope that the driver is okay.

According to Baldwin Chua at his facebook page, the Gallardo was against a GT-R at the Guthrie Corridor Highway when the crash happened. This is a picture from his page:

No further information can be found for the moment, will be updating the situation once the details come in.

UPDATE

Found a new batch of images, now the info here says that the Gallardo was trying to avoid a Proton in the front.

I am a Car Nut - KL's hidden treasures

If someone asks me, “What can you find in KL?”, surely I will pull out the usual string of answers that basically describes KL; the sky-scraping Twin Towers (or Menara Jagung as some like to call them), Menara KL, the tourist-packed Bukit Bintang, Plaza Lowyat a.k.a. IT heaven, Mid Valley, Times Square, and some other malls or attractions that might appeal the usual kaki jalan.

But with being a car nut, things become a little different. Since this is the country’s capital, most of the richies and VIPs live/wander around here. And having a lot of money (I mean a LOT) pretty much doesn’t fit if you’re not riding in style, and that’s why you’ll see them cruising the streets of KL in super-cool, uber-styled supercars. And when a car nut (especially a young one like me) caught even a glimpse of that million-Ringgit ride, we become a bit excited, and totally distracted.

No, not his one, silly. Just couldn't stop another habit of mine; panning shots.

These barely-legal road monsters don’t seem fit on roaming the public roads, having to restrain the massive power that inhabits the engine. Imagine having hundreds of horsepower at the disposal of your right foot, ready to unleash a serious amount of torque and noise, which could be turned into a sudden surge of astounding acceleration and speed. But of course, when these machines could do 0-100km/h in less than 4 seconds, doesn’t mean that it has to do that all the time. They could also serve as a symbol of success, status or wealth of an individual.

Like this 911 for example, could also serve as a good daily car to ferry the owner anywhere in the city. Good ground clearance, not too wide and the ride is not bone-shattering. But a closer look reveals that this is no normal 911. This one is in fact is the turbo version, housing a straight six at the rear that churns out 473bhp. Dare to mess with this one on the freeways?

Call it squashed beetle? Wait until you meet 'em at the tracks and see who's squashed.

The magical word. Even the words itself contributes to 100hp already.

Nature's Beauty with Man's Beast - take 2

Lamborghini, just like Ferrari or Porsche, has always been a head-turner wherever it goes. Whether it’s in the countryside or in the city, the aggressive design language adopted by Lamborghini has always been radical and loud. Sharp lines and jet-like intakes are just among the few unmistakable features of the Charging Bull.

I'm personally loving this stance!

And still continuing the tradition is this refreshing white Lamborghini Gallardo, or Baby Lambo as some call it; obviously because of its smaller size compared to the V12 bearing brother, the Murcielago. 560 horsepower and 4-wheel drive, the new 2008 Gallardo LP 560-4 packs much more punch than its previous lightened, stripped out version of the old Superleggera, which only had 523 horses to gallop with. And it’s noticeably better looking too. Those Reventon-styled front intakes and some new head and rear light design really adds a new “character” for the new Gallardo, making the old one looks a bit too “boxy”.

Look at those intakes, it could literally suck a bulldog in with no ease.

So, of course being a Gallardo, it carries a new 5.2l V10 in the middle, and has that iconic “LP 560-4” badge near its rear tires. But there was none.

550 horses to play with!

Instead, it was replaced with one that reads “LP 550-2”. 550 horsepower, 2-wheel drive; which I could bet with any means that that means rear-wheel drive. This is no ordinary Gallardo, it’s the Valentino Balboni edition! Named after Lamborghini’s veteran test driver after countless years of valuable service, this one has 10 horsepower less, but has all the power going to the rear wheels! With only 250 units worldwide, this beast is really one of a kind.

Look ma! No stripes!

I'm really into the new arrow-shaped light designs, looks futuristic!

But what bugs me though, is that this doesn’t look much like the Balboni that I’ve seen on the net before. Sure, it has that “LP 550-2” badge for starters, but that’s it. There were no iconic stripe that Top Gear loves, Valentino Balboni’s signature badge below the left side window and also the 15-spoke wheel. So of course, being a kid of today, I asked Mr. Google and Mrs. Wiki, and found the answer at Lamborghini’s official website.

Although those aren't the Balboni edition wheels, it's nice nevertheless!

It is easily known as the Gallardo LP 550-2; no fancy Balboni name here, nor the fancy décor too. Mood killer?  Pretty much, but at least it gives a new whiff than the AWD version. I gotta say, the owner must have some kind of special driving skills, or even a set of brass balls because generally, RWDs tend to be a bit tail-happy. If you were to ask me, I’d prefer to stick to the LP560-4. Not that I have no balls, but I wouldn’t want my RM 1 mil+ supercar to be ending up in flames just because I couldn’t countersteer properly.

Maybe some practice in SpeedCity?

This village can kiss serenity bye-bye since this Bull is in town.
